By now you may know that once again the District will run out of money. Judge Rhodes has released June 30th as the last day that the district can cover its financial responsibilities and that an additional 37 million is needed. This would have a huge impact on all of us! This is absolutely unacceptable. We are unclear as to what services and payments are included in this additional amount and so we support and stand with the leadership of DFT in demanding a financial audit.
Tomorrow the Detroit Federation of Teachers will be calling a sick out that may result in a possible district wide school shut down. Look out for district robo calls and watch for news reports for any school closings. If schools are closed we urge you to show your solidarity at the rally tomorrow, Monday, May 2, at 10:00 a.m. at the Fisher Building located at 3011 W. Grand Blvd.
We want a strong showing of solidarity of Local 2350 members at the rally tomorrow. Bring your signs, family and friends. It's time to stand up to let Detroit Public School officials know that we are sick and tired of the disrespect of not paying us for the work we do. News that the district is running out of money and won' t be able to pay employees has an impact on ALL students and staff. This is a crisis for everyone. No school employee should be forced to work without pay.
In addition, we are planning an emergency meeting for Tuesday or Wednesday of this week to discuss further actions. Watch and listen for details.
In Solidarity,
Donna Jackson
President
